With thanksgiving and other holiday gatherings fast approaching, you may want to ensure your smile is squeaky-clean and sparkly. Here are 5 things you can easily do today to brighten your smile.
1.) Eat Crunchy Fruits and Veggies: Apples, celery, carrots… these foods are high in nutrients and stimulate saliva flow in the mouth, in addition to clearing bacteria and plaque build up on the surface of your enamel.
2.) Drink through a Straw: Strongly pigmented drinks like grape juice, coffee, and tea can cause surface stains that could be easily avoided by using a straw. Avoiding yellow or brown stains from diet coke or any other colored drink will make a big difference in the brightness of your smile.
3.) Hydrogen Peroxide rinse: Dilluting hydrogen peroxide with water (1 part water to 1 part hydrogen peroxide) and swishing the solution can help you remove stains from your teeth. Whitening toothpaste can help as well, but the bubbling effect of swishing hydrogen peroxide helps you know it’s really working.
4.) Try an at-home whitening kit: Whitening your teeth at home with an over-the-counter product such as Crest white strips or Rembrandt whitening gel will help, just be sure to follow the instructions and use the treatment through to the end (typically a 1-2 week process).
5.) Visit the Dentist: Zoom whitening, laser whitening, gel whitening trays–your dentist has access to stronger forms of whitening than you do, and if you want your teeth whiter faster, talk to your doc about services he offers.
