With thanksgiving and other holiday gatherings fast approaching, you may want to ensure your smile is squeaky-clean and sparkly. Here are 5 things you can easily do today to brighten your smile.
1.) Eat Crunchy Fruits and Veggies: Apples, celery, carrots… these foods are high in nutrients and stimulate saliva flow in the mouth, in addition to clearing bacteria and plaque build up on the surface of your enamel.
2.) Drink through a Straw: Strongly pigmented drinks like grape juice, coffee, and tea can cause surface stains that could be easily avoided by using a straw. Avoiding yellow or brown stains from diet coke or any other colored drink will make a big difference in the brightness of your smile.
3.) Hydrogen Peroxide rinse: Dilluting hydrogen peroxide with water (1 part water to 1 part hydrogen peroxide) and swishing the solution can help you remove stains from your teeth. Whitening toothpaste can help as well, but the bubbling effect of swishing hydrogen peroxide helps you know it’s really working.
4.) Try an at-home whitening kit: Whitening your teeth at home with an over-the-counter product such as Crest white strips or Rembrandt whitening gel will help, just be sure to follow the instructions and use the treatment through to the end (typically a 1-2 week process).
5.) Visit the Dentist: Zoom whitening, laser whitening, gel whitening trays–your dentist has access to stronger forms of whitening than you do, and if you want your teeth whiter faster, talk to your doc about services he offers.
This holiday season may be your most memorable yet! Don’t get caught with a yellow or brown smile as you gather with family and friends.

Our patients at Platinum Dental Care know how hard traveling can be on the roads throughout the holidays. Not only does the forecast indicate we’ll have snow well before Thanksgiving day, but road construction is a given no matter where you are planning on traveling to.
If you plan on driving anywhere for the holiday, here are some good times to head out based on annual travel patterns around this time of year in Utah:
Tuesday 11/22: Morning traffic will be quieter than normal, but by 1pm expect traffic to begin to ramp up. 4pm-8pm will be the busiest time on the roads today.
Wednesday 11/23: Lighter traffic in the morning than we’re used to seeing on an average weekday, with early departures positively affecting your work commute. By 11am, expect the roads to start crowding with peak traffic between 3pm-7pm.
Thursday 11/24: Happy Thanksgiving! Traffic should be light and similar to a Sunday’s traffic flow. Get off the roads anyway, however, and go eat some turkey.
Friday 11/25: Traffic will behave similar to a weekend day. Most people will be off the roads, but it will likely be busy near large shopping center intersections.
Saturday 11/26: Thursday and Friday were your two days of this week that behave like regular weekend traffic. Expect some early departures and an overall increase on traffic for the entire day.
Sunday 11/27: Yes, you have work tomorrow. Yes, you need to go home if you haven’t already. Traffic will be heaviest bet ween 1pm-6pm, so do your best to leave in the morning or later evening. Regardless of when you’ll leave, however, expect heavier traffic than usual.
At Platinum Dental Care we care first and foremost about your safety. Good luck and safe travels over the upcoming holiday and Happy Thanksgiving!
